Our History

Red River Pharma's roots began in Shreveport more than four decades ago. Founder Sam Camp starred as a football player at Homer High which led to a scholarship education at Tulane University. Camp took a job with Rucker Pharmaceutical that initiated a career in medicine and a passion for innovation.

Camp started his first pharmaceutical company in 1972 by co-founding U.A.D. Laboratories. Fifteen years later, he purchased Pan American Laboratories and consolidated the name into Pamlab, LLC – the parent company of Red River Pharma.

By the late 90s, Pamlab was spending tens of millions each year for product formulation and manufacturing. Because all of this work occurred out-of-state, Camp decided to form a new company in Louisiana to initiate new jobs while serving the product needs at Pamlab. Further, despite an emerging need, very little technical expertise was available for the development and production of Medical Foods.

Red River Pharma was born to fulfill this need and newfound potential. Shreveport was the logical location for building a manufacturing plant given the region's long heritage of pharma distribution and central location for national shipping.

Today, Red River Pharma employs more than 40 in a state-of-the-art facility located on Kings Highway near Claiborne Avenue. The company is the centerpiece for the Intech Sciene Park. The state of Louisiana initiated the BioSpace complex as an incubator for new pharma and biotech development. Red River Pharma occupies 60,000 square feet following a recent 19,000 square foot warehousing addition.
